Loyalist College’s Community and Justice Services program prepares students for meaningful careers supporting individuals at critical points of change, where prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation play a central role. The program focuses on working with vulnerable populations who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in, the justice system. Through evidence-informed practices, students learn to support clients across a wide range of needs, including addiction, mental health challenges, developmental delays, and behavioural concerns, while contributing to safer and more inclusive communities.
The curriculum blends classroom learning with extensive practical experience through simulations, case studies, role-play, field placement, and applied group work. Students develop strong skills in communication, human relations, needs assessment, and critical thinking while engaging directly with correctional facilities and hearing from professionals and individuals with lived experience in the justice and mental health systems. This hands-on approach ensures graduates are prepared to work effectively in both community-based and institutional settings, applying best practices that support client rehabilitation, reintegration, and long-term well-being.
