Taxation and Auditing

Durham College’s Taxation and Auditing Certificate provides focused training for learners looking to build on their accounting experience or pursue specialized opportunities in taxation and auditing. The program combines foundational accounting principles with practical training in tax preparation, audit procedures, and professional ethics, helping learners develop skills relevant to today’s accounting environment.

Learners gain knowledge of the Income Tax Act (Canada), GAAP, and GAAS while developing the practical skills needed to support accurate, compliant, and transparent financial practices. The certificate can prepare graduates for roles such as tax clerk, income tax preparer, auditing clerk, or accounting technician.

Admission Requirements

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.

What You’ll Learn

• Report a variety of business transactions to users of financial statements.
• Apply relevant content in the current Canadian Income Tax Act to various corporate and personal tax scenarios.
• Prepare manually and digitally a simple tax return for an individual (personal income).
• Discuss and answer questions relating to tax planning for individuals and corporations.
• Compute taxable income and taxes payable for corporations (corporate).
• Discuss and apply professional audit standards (Generally Accepted Auditing Standards) and assess the relationship with the ethical and legal environment in which auditors operate, including professional rules of conduct.
