BCIT’s Web Development with JavaScript course builds on foundational HTML5 and CSS3 knowledge to introduce students to client-side programming and more advanced web development techniques. Through hands-on labs, exercises, and assignments, students learn how JavaScript and jQuery can be used to create interactive websites and web applications, with topics ranging from functions and objects to event handling, validation, and animation.

Students also explore modern web development practices, including REST APIs, JSON, Fetch, Async/Await, Git/GitHub, build systems, and Sass (SCSS). The course provides practical experience designing JavaScript code that generates dynamic HTML and CSS while introducing object-oriented patterns such as constructors, classes, and prototypes. Students who successfully complete the course are prepared to develop more advanced websites and web applications.

What You’ll Learn

  • Build interactive websites with JavaScript and jQuery.
  • Work with APIs, JSON, Fetch, and Async/Await.
  • Apply objects, functions, events, and validation.
  • Use Git, build tools, and modern web development practices.

In my opinion, it's a world-class facility when it comes to teaching trades and technology. I've taken a lot of post-secondary education at more places than I care to admit, and the courses I took at BCIT were among the best overall.

I took a variety of classes in Business Admin and then - a few years later - in Web Design. When I left the classes, I felt as though I'd really learned something useful that I could apply right away. (Other places tend to give you a lot of theory, but you're not always confident that you could apply those skills right away.)

I worked in the Human Resources sector for a few years, and someone with a BCIT program on their resume was someone whose resume got read. If you have a chance to study there, take it.
