The Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at BCIT gives students a strong balance of technical expertise and applied learning. In the first two years, learners gain a broad foundation in engineering fundamentals, including material testing, surveying, drafting by hand and computer, and effective technical communication. These skills are paired with hands-on labs and field exercises to help students understand how theory translates into real-world problem solving. Students will also receive a diploma in Civil Engineering after the first two years of the program.

As the program progresses, learners build a deeper understanding of civil engineering science and design, exploring areas such as structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental, and municipal engineering. Students also develop leadership and collaboration skills through project and construction management courses, as well as social sciences and humanities electives that broaden their perspective on the role of engineers in society. The final stage of the program emphasizes teamwork and innovation, with learners completing a capstone design project that challenges them to integrate their technical knowledge and professional skills into a real engineering solution. Graduates emerge ready to contribute to the design, construction, and maintenance of critical infrastructure that supports communities across Canada and beyond.

In my opinion, it's a world-class facility when it comes to teaching trades and technology. I've taken a lot of post-secondary education at more places than I care to admit, and the courses I took at BCIT were among the best overall.

I took a variety of classes in Business Admin and then - a few years later - in Web Design. When I left the classes, I felt as though I'd really learned something useful that I could apply right away. (Other places tend to give you a lot of theory, but you're not always confident that you could apply those skills right away.)

I worked in the Human Resources sector for a few years, and someone with a BCIT program on their resume was someone whose resume got read. If you have a chance to study there, take it.
