Be well prepared for a rewarding nursing career by taking Mount Royal University’s accredited Bachelor of Nursing program. Promoting the health and wellness of people and communities is at the heart of this undergraduate degree. The four-year curriculum has been designed to meet the challenges facing today’s nurses. You will graduate with confidence in your knowledge and skills and ready to contribute in any number of settings within this growing health care field.

Your BN practice assignments take you out into the community. With classmates, you assess needs and see how nursing can support and promote health. While you learn, you make a difference.

From day one, you explore issues and ethics that contribute to a healthy community. You focus on promoting health and wellness of groups of people, community-wide.

As a Registered Nurse you have the option of specializing in an area such as surgery, pediatrics, mental health or geriatrics. Providing direct patient care is foremost, but you may also maintain records and supervise other nurses and other health support staff. You may care for clients in their homes. Your duties will change according to the needs of each client, providing a healthy dose of variety to your job. Take your skills into the community by visiting schools, nursing homes, community centres or private residences. Your role differs from a nurse in a hospital or clinical setting, because being out in the public you can identify health trends and target populations at risk.

I have been very lucky to have the opportunity to be able to experience clinical practice early on in the nursing program. MRU incorporates clinical practice within your first or second year of the program. This has allowed me to apply the information and skills I learnt in class , to real life situations. Doing this has allowed me to understand concepts better and more effectively, and not just memorizing the information or skills for a test . Furthermore , it has allowed me to learn how to work within a multidisciplinary team , which is a crucial part of nursing. Additionally , early clinical experience allowed me to develop active communication skills, critical thinking, therapeutic relationships and has generally allowed me to improve the medical skills needed in my profession such as medication administration, catheters, IVs, wound care, repositioning, assessments etc. Overall , early clinical experience has been super beneficial to me , my learning , and my skill development.

I’m currently in my fourth year of the Bachelor of Nursing program at Mount Royal University, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with my experience so far.
One of the best parts of this program is how early we get into clinical placements. Starting hands-on learning in the first year really helped me build confidence and connect what we learn in class to real-life situations. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work in a variety of healthcare settings, and every placement has taught me something new.
The instructors here genuinely care. They’re approachable, supportive, and really want you to succeed—not just academically, but as a future nurse. I’ve had professors stay after class to explain concepts or just check in on how things are going, which makes a big difference when the workload gets heavy.
MRU also has amazing simulation labs that look and feel like real hospital settings. Practicing skills in that kind of environment helped me feel much more prepared before stepping into clinical.
Another thing I’ve loved is the strong sense of community. Our class sizes are small, so it’s easy to build connections with classmates and instructors. It feels like everyone is rooting for each other.
If you’re looking for a nursing program that balances strong academics, hands-on experience, and a supportive atmosphere, I highly recommend MRU.
