Mount Royal University’s Bachelor of Social Work program prepares students to empower individuals, challenge injustice, and support communities through ethical, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive practice. The program integrates social justice, diversity, and Indigenous ways of knowing while combining classroom learning with simulation labs and supervised field placements. Students develop the professional knowledge and practical skills needed to work effectively across a wide range of social service environments and are eligible to register with the Alberta College of Social Workers upon graduation.
Students can tailor their studies through two concentrations: Generalist Social Work or Child Intervention. The Generalist stream focuses on supporting individuals across the lifespan using strength-based and inclusive approaches in areas such as health, justice, education, and community services. The Child Intervention stream builds on foundational practice with specialized training in child and family support, including risk assessment, safety planning, and interagency collaboration. Across both pathways, students gain hands-on experience in real-world settings while developing competencies in assessment, intervention, advocacy, and culturally responsive practice, preparing them to confidently enter professional social work roles.
