St. Thomas University’s Bachelor of Social Work program is grounded in a strong commitment to understanding and addressing the structural roots of social issues within Canadian society. It frames social work as a transformative and political practice focused on promoting equality, inclusion, and social change. Students examine how systemic inequalities contribute to challenges such as poverty, homelessness, gender-based violence, racial discrimination, and climate-related injustice, while developing the knowledge and critical awareness needed to support individuals and communities affected by these conditions.

The program combines a broad liberal arts foundation with specialized social work education and extensive field experience. After two years of foundational study, students enter focused social work courses covering areas such as anti-oppressive practice, social policy, mental health, trauma, community organizing, and family law. Learning is reinforced through two supervised practicums totaling a minimum of 700 hours, offering hands-on experience in both community and clinical settings. This integrated approach prepares graduates for generalist practice, equipping them with the skills to work effectively with individuals, families, and communities while contributing to meaningful social transformation.

Admission Requirements
