Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Red Deer Polytechnic’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program prepares students to become skilled sonographers, combining technical expertise with compassionate, patient-centered care. The program provides comprehensive training in sonographic physics, ultrasound instrumentation, image acquisition, and interpretation, ensuring that graduates can produce accurate diagnostic images and support clinical decision-making. Students also develop professional competencies in ethical practice and effective patient communication, essential for delivering high-quality care in healthcare settings.

The program emphasizes hands-on learning through three clinical practicum courses totaling 1,080 hours, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world healthcare environments. During these placements, students work alongside experienced sonographers, gaining practical experience with diverse patients and building the technical, professional, and interpersonal skills needed to excel in diagnostic medical sonography.
