Pharmacy Technicians manage many of the operational and administrative activities of running a pharmacy including dispensing, preparing and compounding medications, managing drug inventory, as well as assisting patients with their prescription orders.
With the new focus on Pharmacists to provide complete pharmaceutical and healthcare services, Pharmacy Technicians are needed so that pharmacists can spend more time with their patients.
The Robertson College Pharmacy Technician program is based on the NAPRA Competencies and CPTEA Educational Outcomes for Pharmacy Technicians at Entry to Practice.
Successful graduates of the Pharmacy Technician program will be eligible to register with the Alberta College of Pharmacy as Provisional Pharmacy Technicians. Pharmacy Technicians registered with the Alberta College of Pharmacy are health care professionals regulated under the Health Professions Act of Alberta.
The teaching facilities at Robertson College Calgary include both a simulated retail and institutional pharmacy with sterile compounding laminar airflow hoods. The students are able to fill prescriptions using the Kroll computer system and receive hands-on training in the simulated pharmacy labs.
Students must complete a 9 week practicum. The practicum is an essential part of a student’s program. It is not merely a graduation requirement; it is an extension of the in-class learning. The practicum asks you to apply the skills, theories, and concepts that you learned in your classes in an entry-level work experience situation. Practicum must begin and end within the dates outlined in your program schedule and enrolment contract. Practicum is a full-time, unpaid commitment.

This is a great program based on the NAPRA Competencies and CPTEA outcomes. Great instructors, lots of flexibility and easy going atmosphere for learning that still pushes you the ways you need to be challenged.
