Canada Heavy Equipment College’s Tractor-Trailer AZ/DZ program prepares students for careers as professional truck drivers through comprehensive, career-focused training. The 200-hour program combines classroom instruction with practical experience to develop the technical skills needed to transport goods safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Students learn about vehicle systems, inspections, air brakes, preventative maintenance, cargo handling, trip planning, hours-of-service regulations, and the safety requirements associated with commercial transportation.

The program emphasizes hands-on learning, including 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training, 40 hours of pre- and post-trip inspections, circle checks, coupling and uncoupling, and backing exercises, along with 48 hours of observational training. Students also develop skills in defensive driving, hazard awareness, emergency manoeuvres, challenging driving conditions, transportation security, and professional communication. Upon successful completion, graduates meet the applicable Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) standards, helping prepare them to pursue opportunities in Canada’s commercial trucking and transportation industry.
