Richards Truck Driving School’s Class A-Z Mandatory Entry-Level Training (M.E.L.T.) program in Mississauga prepares students to pursue careers as professional tractor-trailer drivers. The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO)-approved program combines 37 hours of classroom instruction with 67 hours of practical, in-vehicle training. Students develop essential knowledge of vehicle systems, inspection procedures, road safety, trip planning, hours-of-service regulations, and cargo securement.
The program emphasizes hands-on experience through 17 hours of on-yard training and 50 hours of in-cab instruction, with one-on-one lessons tailored to each student’s progress. Students can train using manual or automatic transmission vehicles and practise manoeuvres in the school’s private 1.5-acre training yard. Additional topics include defensive driving, hazardous materials, air brake endorsement preparation, accident prevention, and border crossing procedures, helping students build the practical skills and safety awareness required for professional commercial driving.
Dates and length of program subject to change.
