Université de Moncton’s Professional Master’s Degree in Social Work is designed to strengthen advanced practice by developing critical and reflective understanding of the theoretical, ethical, and methodological foundations of social work intervention. The program emphasizes empowerment, social justice, and creative problem-solving in professional practice, enabling students to effectively support individuals, families, groups, and communities, as well as assist organizations in addressing complex challenges. Students are encouraged to critically examine the epistemology of intervention and apply informed judgment to contemporary social issues.
The program combines advanced coursework with a substantial intervention internship, allowing students to integrate theory with real-world practice in meaningful ways. Areas of study include critical analysis of intervention, social policy, feminism and social work, social movements, and collective identity, along with specialized seminars that support deeper exploration of emerging topics. Through guided reflection and applied learning, students develop the capacity to design, implement, and evaluate intervention strategies grounded in ethical practice and social justice principles.
