Fashion Design

Mohawk College’s Fashion Design program is designed for experienced dressmakers, fashion teachers, and those passionate about fashion and design. This program offers the opportunity to pursue a rewarding career in fashion or simply enrich your personal creative expression. With a unique blend of technical pattern design and drafting skills, along with the creation of personalized designs, students move beyond reliance on commercial patterns to develop their own distinctive styles.

The program covers a broad range of fashion-related topics, including fashion drawing, color theory, textile knowledge, and costume history. Students will gain hands-on experience in designing, drafting, and sewing, transforming ideas from paper to finished garment. Through this practical approach, participants will create their own patterns using standard and personalized measurements and enhance their sewing techniques.

By the end of the program, students will have a strong foundation in pattern making, from basic to advanced techniques, and a deeper understanding of the cyclical nature of fashion. Graduates will also develop an appreciation for natural and man-made textiles, as well as an awareness of how historical fashion influences contemporary designs. Admission Requirements

• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
• A sound knowledge of dressmaking skills is required for the pattern making courses.
