Mohawk College’s Pediatric Nursing program is designed to equip Registered Nurses (RNs) with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to provide effective care for the pediatric population, ranging from infancy to adolescence, in both hospital and community settings. This program emphasizes family-centered care, where students learn to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions in a variety of pediatric scenarios, including both routine and complex cases. Students will also explore the psychosocial, cultural, ethical, and political factors that influence pediatric care.
Graduates will be prepared to work in pediatric units and community-based environments, with a focus on promoting family involvement and supporting the unique needs of children and adolescents. The program also encourages the use of critical thinking and evidence-based practice, with students expanding their scientific knowledge and utilizing research to enhance care delivery. Additionally, students will develop teaching skills to address the educational needs of both pediatric patients and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of pediatric health and wellness.
