The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program at Wilfrid Laurier University is an accredited, direct-entry program offered at the Brantford campus, allowing students to begin their social work education in their first year. The program prepares students for a respected and regulated profession dedicated to addressing inequality and improving social conditions at both local and global levels. Through a curriculum focused on social justice, human rights, and equitable access to services, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to respond to complex issues such as racism, poverty, displacement, and violence while supporting individuals, families, and communities.
The program features a practice-based approach that integrates theoretical learning with hands-on experiences, including simulations and role-playing activities in core courses. Students also complete two field placements, each totaling approximately 360 hours, where they apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings under professional supervision. These placements support the development of practical skills and a strong professional identity. Guided by experienced faculty committed to providing relevant and career-focused education, graduates are well-equipped to pursue meaningful roles in social work and contribute to positive social change.
