Computer Systems Technician – Cyber Security

Sheridan College’s Computer Systems Technician – Cyber Security diploma fast-tracks students toward a career in cyber security in as little as 16 months. Recognized as Canada’s first public cyber security diploma, the program equips learners with job-ready skills aligned with the Canadian Cyber Security Skills Framework, specifically in the Operate & Maintain and Protect & Defend domains. Students build a strong foundation in operating systems, Python programming, cloud security, data communications, web and application security, and penetration testing tools—preparing them for entry-level roles or further industry certifications without the need for advanced math courses.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the program offers multiple intakes and a blend of in-person, hybrid and online learning formats. Guided by active industry professionals, students engage in lectures, case studies and collaborative projects while gaining hands-on experience in a cyber range that simulates a real-world Security Operations Centre (SOC). Graduates develop the ability to install, configure and secure computing and cloud infrastructures, conduct vulnerability assessments, automate tasks through scripting, apply cybersecurity frameworks and best practices, and communicate effectively with stakeholders—all while adhering to ethical, legal and regulatory standards in today’s evolving digital landscape.

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
