Université de Montréal’s Bachelor of Social Work program prepares students to understand and address social inequalities and complex social issues affecting individuals, families, groups, and communities. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practice-oriented learning, helping students develop a strong foundation in social problems, social policy, social research, and intervention methodologies. Students learn to critically analyze individual and collective challenges while exploring ethical, rights-based, and socially responsive approaches to professional social work practice.

The curriculum includes training in individual, family, group, and collective intervention, as well as applied ethics, collaboration within health sciences, and community engagement. Practical learning is emphasized through internships completed in community organizations and social service settings during the second and third years of study. Students also have opportunities to broaden their perspectives through elective courses on diverse social issues and international exchange experiences. Graduates are academically prepared to pursue membership with the Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec, a requirement for using the title of social worker in Quebec.
