Université de Montréal Doctorate in Medicine students are prepared to be future physicians for their roles as scientific and humanistic professionals, communicators, collaborators in multidisciplinary teams, health promoters and health care managers. Graduates will leave the program as a physician capable of meeting the needs of a changing society and the imperatives of a rapidly changing health system. This program is in line with societal issues and emerging fields (climate health, digital health, artificial intelligence) with emphasize on innovative and varied teaching methods to learn to care with humanism and leadership.

The undergraduate doctoral program in medicine lasts 4 or 5 years. The program is divided into two or three stages: the preparatory year (depending on the nature of previous studies), the pre-externship and the externship. The two pre-externship years, the most theoretical portion of the program, take place mainly on campus. The two externship years are done almost exclusively in the form of internships in a hospital setting.

Admission Requirements

  • Level of knowledge of French of at least C2 in oral and written comprehension.
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status and a Resident of Quebec.
  • DEC or University Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Successful completion of the CASPer exam.
