Niagara College’s Photography Diploma program is for students who have a passion for capturing the perfect moment and want to merge their eye for photography with a career in the digital realm. Photographers create portrait, commercial, fine art, and event images, using the latest digital imaging software for editing and retouching as needed.
Students develop their artistic vision and master digital imaging technologies to cultivate their unique style and a cutting-edge portfolio. They will learn practical entrepreneurial and business principles through hands-on projects that address a diverse range of applied photography scenarios. The curriculum in this Photography program incorporates state-of-the-art digital editing software. Students will gain extensive practical experience in the studio, digital darkroom, and on location.
What You’ll Learn
- Select and utilize appropriate photographic equipment and techniques to capture high-quality images of various subjects, both in studio and on location.
- Apply post-production techniques to edit and finalize images in formats that meet industry standards and client needs.
- Create effective lighting schemes using suitable techniques, equipment, and accessories to produce quality images that fulfill client requirements.
- Employ design elements and principles to plan and create visually compelling images.
- Complete all work in a professional and ethical manner, adhering to the legal requirements of the photography industry.
- Develop strategies to stay current with evolving photography trends, issues, technologies, and industry practices to enhance performance and guide professional development.
- Utilize digital asset management tools and strategies to catalog, store, back up, retrieve, and archive images and prints.
- Apply business planning and administrative skills to support and maintain a photography business.
- Implement a variety of marketing tools and strategies to effectively promote photographic products and services.
- Develop and present a professional portfolio that showcases one’s creative approach, image conception, capture, editing, and production skills.
