The Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training course at Algonquin College is a dynamic program that focuses on skills and competencies required to be a firefighter. Students will begin the program with an introduction to the profession, and develop the skills and expertise needed for their career, graduating with more than 400 hours of experiential learning, including fire simulations and live-fire training exercises.
Successful applicants will receive the knowledge, skills, and professionalism that is expected from a firefighter to best prepare for their career. By the end of the program, students will be able to conduct safe an affective fire suppression techniques, develop fire prevention education programs, execute special rescue operations in a variety of emergency contexts, use appropriate fire service terminology, and collaborate with other agencies to provide comprehensive service during incident responses.
Graduates may find work as firefighters, fire dispatchers, or fire prevention officers with a municipality, territory, airport, or a military fire service.
Admission Requirements
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent.
- Grade 12 English or equivalent.
- Grade 12 Math or equivalent.
- Biology or chemistry grade 11 or 12.
