For over 15 years, the Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Program at St. Lawrence College has been shaping the next generation of firefighters. This innovative program stands out through smaller class sizes, a strong instructor-to-student ratio, and close partnerships with local fire services. Students gain hands-on experience in fire suppression, auto extrication, emergency patient care, and simulated live fire training scenarios. Beyond technical skills, the program also prepares students for the hiring process with resumé assistance, career planning, and mock interviews.
Through partnerships with Brockville Fire Department and Elizabethtown-Kitley Fire and Emergency Services, students train alongside active firefighters. Graduates will be eligible for provincial testing to achieve NFPA 1001, 1072, and 1035 certifications, ensuring they are career-ready.
