Algonquin College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is a two-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate designed to equip students with the knowledge and technical skills required to produce high-quality sonographic images and perform diagnostic procedures. The program combines theory, simulation, lab practice, and extensive clinical experiences to ensure learners develop the expertise needed to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding healthcare environment. Students also learn to prioritize health and safety, apply quality assurance protocols, and practice critical thinking to support accurate and reliable diagnostic imaging.
Throughout the program, students complete two 600-hour field placements, gaining hands-on experience that strengthens their technical abilities, professional judgment, and interpersonal skills with patients and healthcare teams. Graduates leave the program prepared to function as competent members of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and are eligible to pursue national certification through Sonography Canada. Successful certification grants the title of Canadian Generalist Sonographer, positioning graduates for a rewarding career in the dynamic field of diagnostic medical sonography.
