Fleming College’s Mechanical Techniques – Plumbing program is a two-semester, hands-on program designed to equip students with the technical skills required for careers in residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing. Students gain practical experience installing, maintaining, and repairing piping systems, as well as assembling various plumbing systems in the college’s multi-story KUBE structure. The program emphasizes interpreting and creating drawings, developing material lists, and understanding venting, waste, and drainage systems, while also introducing concepts in water and wastewater systems, backflow prevention, and renewable energy applications.
Graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce or pursue apprenticeships, with eligibility for exemption from Level 1 in-school requirements for Plumber 306A apprenticeship training. The program provides opportunities to earn industry-related certifications, including IPEX 636 training, Viega Certified connections, and the Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems Course through the Walkerton Clean Water Centre. Students also develop competencies in health and safety compliance, sustainability practices, troubleshooting, and the use of tools and technology for plumbing projects. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, the program ensures graduates leave ready to contribute confidently and competently to the plumbing trade.
