Fleming’s Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program offers classroom theory, coursework, and medical training to the EMR Standard take place during the winter months, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to enter the fire service industry. Students receive over 60 days of hands-on practical training at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA), a well-established, fully equipped fire and emergency services training facility.
Course content follows National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and covers key topics, including fire behaviour, suppression, ventilation, incident management systems, command and control, hazardous materials, forcible entry, firefighter survival, auto extrication, confined space awareness, technical rescue, fire attack scenarios, fitness and wellness, fire prevention principles, public education, and medical training. Medical training includes Red Cross Emergency Medical Response (EMR) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).
To further support students, Fleming provides fire industry-specific interview techniques and career planning strategies, helping graduates prepare for the application and interview process within the fire service.
