Mount Allision’s Aviation program is an interdisciplinary degree program combining professional flight training with undergraduate studies in Arts, Commerce, or Science.

The Aviation program at Mount Allison is one of only a few in Canada that allows you to earn an undergraduate degree that incorporates flight and ground school training. Before students can start their flight training, they must complete their first year at Mount Allison with introductory courses in their chosen degree.

Degree options

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA)
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc), major
  • Bachelor of Commerce (BComm)

Then to begin flight training students must have second year standing (have earned a minimum of 24 credits), obtain a Transport Canada category 1 medical certificate, and pass a formal English language proficiency test mandated by Transport Canada and administered by MFC training.

Students will continue to take three courses per term on campus and ground school training, while one-on-one instructor training and flying take place at the MFC Training campus.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree, Aviation students graduate with a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), a multi-engine class rating, and a Group 1 instrument rating. Students may also qualify to write the Airline Transport Pilot Licence exam.

I went through the program, and after graduation, I spent some time accumulating hours as a flight instructor and am now a commercial pilot for one of Canada’s major airlines. Many of my peers, and students, were international students.

If you are looking for an extremely challenging university with a high academic standard, Mount A definitely is for you. If you are looking for something that is easy to cruise through, I would recommend another place. If you attend Mount A, you will have to work very hard to achieve good grades. There are however, several support systems established at the university to ascertain student success. There are a lot of kind people all around the university who will want to see you succeed and help you out in every step of the way. Any time you have challenges, there is normally someone you can contact for help. I am yet to find another place with the level of hospitality I have experienced at Mount A.
