The experience in one of my office administration classes was awful, mostly because of how the instructor treated me. My attendance was wildly misrepresented, which got reported up the chain and made me look like I wasn't trying at all. Real-life responsibilities? Apparently those don't count; you're just seen as flaky. Tried to communicate directly, got redirected every time, and every single email was CC'd to higher-ups, turning simple questions into formal escalations. Felt like the instructor was avoiding any real conversation and building a paper trail instead. Midterm was completed fully using the required software and on camera after studying hard, but the grade got zeroed out over not being on Zoom simultaneously, a rule mentioned once verbally in class but never posted clearly anywhere. No grace for the confusion, just punishment.
All I received was enforcement over support: fast pace with no slowdown despite complaints, and feedback focused on rules rather than helping anyone understand the material. Made it feel like the point was to catch mistakes, not teach. Other instructors at Sask Polytech have been solid and supportive, but this one stood out as unnecessarily punitive and discouraging. Adult learners with jobs and families deserve better than this.
