Centennial College’s Music Industry Arts and Performance (MIAP) advanced diploma program is designed to transform a passion for popular, world, or Indigenous music into a sustainable career in the modern music industry. Offered through the School of Communications, Media, Arts and Design, this three-year program develops well-rounded musicians by nurturing creativity, strengthening musical skills, and exposing students to diverse global music cultures. Students also gain knowledge of music technologies while building business and entrepreneurial skills necessary to succeed in today’s evolving music landscape.

Throughout the program, students receive mentorship from professional musicians through private lessons and ensemble rehearsals, gaining valuable hands-on experience. In the third year, students specialize in either the music creation and business stream or the music creation and technology stream, allowing them to tailor their learning to their career goals. The program concludes with a six-week field placement that provides real-world industry experience. Graduates leave the program as versatile, culturally aware musicians with the performance, technological, and business expertise needed to create, record, and manage music professionally while building sustainable careers in the industry.

As a current student in Centennial College’s Early Childhood Education program, I’m loving the experience so far! The curriculum is really well-rounded, covering everything from child development to creating inclusive learning environments. The best part is the hands-on experience—we get to work with kids through placements, which is amazing for applying what we learn in class.
