Durham College’s graduate certificate program in Addictions and Mental Health helps students develop the skillset required to support those facing two of the country’s leading issues.

Thanks to a combination of theoretical teachings and practical, clinical skills development, graduates will be able to successfully navigate their journey into helping others into wellness. At the end of the program, students are required to participate in a 490-hour clinical field placement, and be supervised by a qualified professional practitioner and monitored by a college advisor from the Addictions and Mental Health program.

This program meets the standards of the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF) and is accepted as recognized formal addiction education for graduates who apply for certification.

  • Degree in psychology or social work, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three credits in post-secondary psychology courses.
  • English language proficiency.

I enjoyed my time at Durham College. It is a great school for the Dental Assisting program. The faculty are easy to approach and really do strive to help you succeed. I am witness to the staff that took the extra time out of their schedules out of class time to help those that needed extra assistance. So for those who say Durham does not help you to succeed... Id say it must be program specific. I was offered employment on my second week of placement. The teachers are there to get you to SUCCEED your program. After that the rest is up to you. It's all how you market yourself.
