Fire Prevention and Technology (Co-op Option Available)

Durham College’s three-year Fire Prevention and Technology program equips students with essential skills, technical expertise, and industry certifications for a successful fire safety career. With a strong focus on real-world applications and compliance with regional and national standards, graduates will be prepared to prevent and respond to fire hazards in public service, private industry, or consulting roles.

The program emphasizes fire safety legislation, ensuring students can enforce life safety codes and conduct fire inspections. Training includes developing fire prevention plans, assessing fire protection systems like sprinklers and alarms, and ensuring compliance with the Ontario Fire Code and National Building Code of Canada.

Additionally, two students who are accepted into this program from Whitby, Ontario, will receive the Whitby Fire and Emergency Services Inclusivity Excellence award, which will cover full tuition outside of books, equipment, and ancillary services.

Admission Requirements

• Ontario Secondary School diploma or equivalent.
• Grade 12 English, college or university.
• Grade 12 Math, college or university.
• Recommended to have either Grade 12 Chemistry or Physics.
