The Paralegal graduate certificate program at Humber College prepares students for careers in the legal field through a practical, case-based learning approach. The program focuses on developing essential legal competencies such as legal research, critical thinking, problem solving, and both written and oral advocacy. Through active learning methods including presentations, simulations, and mock trials, students build confidence and practical courtroom skills while gaining experience analyzing legal cases and preparing arguments.
The curriculum covers key areas of law including tort and contract law, residential landlord and tenant law, employment law, small claims court procedures, provincial offences, summary convictions, and administrative tribunal law and procedures. Students also study legal accounting, business planning, entrepreneurship, and ethics to prepare for managing a professional paralegal practice. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with the advocacy and legal skills needed to represent clients effectively in courts and tribunals.
