Mohawk College’s Interior Decorating program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career in interior decorating or to elevate their own home design with a professional touch. This program offers a comprehensive approach to residential decorating, teaching everything from lighting and colour to furniture and fabrics. Students will develop their creative visual skills and practical knowledge under the guidance of industry professionals.

Through courses like Colour Principles, Creative Design Presentations, Residential Lighting, and Accessorizing the Home, participants will gain hands-on experience and learn to create aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces. Coming from an international student who graduated around two months ago. I went through the bridging programme at Mohawk and am now studying at Brock University in the Accountancy COOP programme.

PROFESSORS & PEERS

Carol and Patricia’s accounting classes were like learning step by step with someone guiding you through all the tricky parts. The assignments and classes matched up perfectly and actually made sense. Most of the time, they even gave us extra materials just to make sure we fully understood everything.

Elliot’s classes were always fun and easy to follow. He has this way of breaking down complex concepts so clearly and straight to the point. Great guy too, with a solid sense of humour and a really strong professional background!

James’s auditing and business info courses were solid as well. I have great respect for the fairness and integrity he consistently demonstrates in his classes. My biggest takeaway from him is to always stay true and fair to others and, most importantly, to myself.

Personally speaking, the professors truly value teaching and genuinely care about their students.

CAMPUS:

The campus is beautiful, full of diverse vegetation, wildlife and plants, with the Royal Air Force of geese on patrol four seasons a year, and in summer, ladybirds casually land on your shoulder to greet you.

(However, in my last one or two semesters, the public hygiene and environment near the main entrance did take a hit due to some students’ careless and deliberate damage.)

The library is also an amazing place to study, I spent most of my time there doom drinking coffee from the Tims express and hustling my way through the course content.

I also like how they divided the library into three zones, the upstairs the talking zone, the main library area downstairs, and a separate ultra quiet space inside the library designed for those who need complete silence, all came with computer access for those in need. There are also other good spots on campus for studying, like the EA area, which is also quite nice, with accessible entertainment options.

As for food, the options are fairly diverse, though the taste and quality might not be to everyone’s liking. Still, with Subway and Tims around, it’s honestly not the end of the world.

My three years there were full of greatness and growth, wasn’t a top student, I failed courses, repeated years, and made mistakes. But I’m genuinely grateful for that time. I made great friends and learnt lessons far beyond the textbooks, from both my peers and professors, which truly prepared me for the future and the Canadian society.
