The Honours Bachelor of Information Technology – Cybersecurity (IFS) is a four-year degree program designed to prepare students for careers in information security. Students develop comprehensive knowledge of vulnerability and threat assessment, risk management, data analysis, and network and operating system infrastructure. The program emphasizes practical applications for addressing cybersecurity challenges such as hacking, malware, data breaches, and other technological threats. Through hands-on learning, students build skills in assessing internal and external security needs, analyzing distributed computer systems, understanding data communication and operating systems, and securing infrastructure components.
Students also learn to design and implement secure practices for information acquisition, transmission, and storage while developing skills in project and system requirements analysis, security deployment across various platforms, project planning and management, research methodology, and technology planning and acquisition. A mandatory co-op work term provides valuable hands-on experience in the field, typically through a paid position completed between academic semesters. The co-op requires a minimum of 420 hours of work experience, and successful completion of the required work term is necessary for graduation.
