The Law Clerk program at Seneca Polytechnic is a two-year legal paraprofessional program designed to prepare students for careers supporting lawyers in law firms, corporate legal departments, and government organizations. Taught by experienced legal professionals, the curriculum focuses on key areas of law including real estate, corporate and commercial law, litigation, wills and estates, family law, and criminal law. Students gain a strong understanding of the Canadian legal system while developing practical skills in legal drafting, legal document production, and legal office procedures, helping them contribute effectively to legal teams.
Throughout the program, students build strong professional communication, research, and organizational skills while learning to review legislation, synthesize legal information, and work collaboratively in legal environments. Learning is enhanced through workshops, law firm tours, court visits, career preparation events, and speaking engagements with industry professionals. A field placement provides valuable hands-on experience, allowing students to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting and develop the technical, ethical, and professional competencies required to succeed as a law clerk.
