The fully online UX/UI Design Certificate teaches participants the foundations of both UX and UI design, how to approach problems from a user-centered perspective, and how to conduct user research to best guide the design process. A special capstone project integrates previous learning, applies theory and method, and stretches the learners’ generative and creative abilities.
Aimed at learners looking to get into the design fields of User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI), upskill, or develop new skills, this program will be particularly relevant to those who are graphic designers, digital marketers, computer programmers, business and agency owners, entrepreneurs, and technology startups, as well as managers and team leads who work with designers.
What You’ll Learn
- Keep up to date with the latest tools and trends in User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design.
- Develop your user-centred design thinking to shape digital interactions that feel personalized and intuitive.
- Perform user research to create user personas, get to know their unique needs, and solve their problems.
- Create visual designs that are aesthetically pleasing and function smoothly.
- Learn to shape interactive interfaces that are easy to navigate and accessible to all.

As a working educator, I appreciated the flexibility and relevance of the University of Alberta's Master of Education program. The curriculum balanced theory and practice, allowing me to immediately apply what I learned in my classroom and school community. The collaborative environment fostered meaningful discussions with peers from diverse backgrounds, and those connections became one of the most valuable parts of my experience.
