MD/PhD

The MD/PhD Program trains physician scientists who are well prepared for both research and clinical practice. Through this program students become a fully accredited physician, and complete a PhD through the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies.

Students will enter their first year of training in the Foundations Curriculum of the MD program, and at the end of year one, will start work on their PhD. In the next four to five years, students will develop their research plan, acquire any necessary new techniques, research, and complete experiments. Upon completion of research, with supervisory and graduate department approval, students then return to complete the remaining three years of the MD Program.

Admission Requirements

• Completion of at least three years of undergraduate study (15 full course equivalents) towards a Canadian university bachelor’s degree.
• MCAT score threshold score of 125 in each section, with an allowance of 124 in one section.
• Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.6 / 4.0 on the Ontario Medical School Application Service (OMSAS) scale.
