Wilfrid Laurier University’s Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Certificate, offered in partnership with Qualia Counselling Services, provides specialized training in one of the most widely researched and effective approaches to mental health treatment. CBT focuses on identifying and changing patterns of thinking and behaviour to improve emotional well-being and overall functioning. This program equips professionals with practical, evidence-based tools to support individuals experiencing a range of concerns, including mood disorders, trauma, anxiety, and behavioural challenges, while also addressing broader health-related issues.
The certificate is structured across two progressive levels, allowing learners to build both foundational and advanced competencies in CBT practice. Level I introduces core concepts such as assessment, treatment planning, session structure, cognitive restructuring, and behavioural interventions, while Level II focuses on applying these skills to specific populations and complex mental health conditions, including trauma, addictions, and anxiety disorders. Through a combination of instruction, applied exercises, and flexible learning, participants gain the confidence and expertise to integrate CBT techniques into their professional practice and support meaningful client change.
