Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue’s Bachelor of Social Work prepares students to become agents of change who contribute to improving living conditions and promoting well-being, social participation, and civic engagement. The program focuses on supporting individuals, families, groups, and communities facing vulnerable situations, particularly those affected by marginalization or exclusion linked to social, economic, cultural, or environmental factors. Students learn to take a holistic approach to understanding social issues by considering the broader political, economic, and social contexts that shape human experiences. The degree also provides access to the Order of Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists of Quebec (OTSTCFQ), supporting professional recognition in the field.

This program combines academic theory with hands-on practice through instruction from experienced professors and practitioners with strong field expertise. Students complete two internships that offer exposure to diverse practice environments and client populations, helping them develop practical intervention skills across individual, group, and community settings. A particular focus is placed on Indigenous realities through specialized learning and fieldwork opportunities at the Val-d’Or campus. Graduates leave with the knowledge, judgment, and professional competencies needed to analyze complex social situations, intervene effectively, and contribute meaningfully to social well-being and collective change.
