The Applied Software Development (ASD) Associate Certificate at BCIT provides a practical foundation in modern application development, grounded in industry standards and best practices. The program introduces learners to programming through Python before advancing to Java, object-oriented design, and core concepts in business analysis and systems design. Through a structured progression of required courses, students build strong problem-solving skills and an understanding of how software solutions are designed, developed, and aligned with business needs.

To complement the core curriculum, the program offers a range of electives that allow students to tailor their learning to specific technical interests and career goals. Options include application development using languages such as C, C#, C++, and Java, as well as courses in Agile scrum methods, quality assurance, and software testing. This flexible structure supports skill development across multiple platforms and methodologies, preparing graduates for entry-level roles in software development or further study in computing and technology fields.

In my opinion, it's a world-class facility when it comes to teaching trades and technology. I've taken a lot of post-secondary education at more places than I care to admit, and the courses I took at BCIT were among the best overall.

I took a variety of classes in Business Admin and then - a few years later - in Web Design. When I left the classes, I felt as though I'd really learned something useful that I could apply right away. (Other places tend to give you a lot of theory, but you're not always confident that you could apply those skills right away.)

I worked in the Human Resources sector for a few years, and someone with a BCIT program on their resume was someone whose resume got read. If you have a chance to study there, take it.
