Graduates of the Occupational Health and Safety diploma program learn the operations of health and safety and the business side, including human resources, communication, decision-making, and leadership. This is what sets it apart from the Certificate program, which is geared towards experienced individuals looking to move into health and safety roles within their existing industry.

The science-oriented diploma program combines studies in safety, health, engineering, and business. This ideal combination prepares the student to understand the potential safety and health hazards of the work environment, as well as the human relations involved in improving the workplace environment.

Fieldwork and an industry practicum give students hands-on experience.

I graduated from the CST (Computer Systems Technology) program in 2017. I didn't see that on the list here so I picked a related program. The experience was very good and oriented to getting that first job. My salary went from $58,000 to $170,000 in less than 5 years working in software engineering. The pandemic gave us engineers a boost, but I had the skills and had "learned how to learn," and so my career has shown that. BCIT gave me a great start in this industry.
