Commercial Pilot Licence

All new pilots looking to obtain their commercial pilots’ licence must go through an intensive program of both ground and flight training to prepare themselves for the Transport Canada examinations, and ultimately for their successful career as a pilot.

Chinook Helicopters generally teaches the commercial course as a single unit, including all the flight time that other schools would include in their private courses. This allows them to offer students a from-the-ground-up commercial license completely tax free and the whole course being eligible for tuition tax credits.

In addition to a comprehensive eighty-hour ground school program, the student will receive two-hundred hours of flight instruction and one-on-one time with our experienced instructors to prepare for the written and practical Transport Canada examinations.

Chinook Helicopters offers student pilots the opportunity to do their Transport Canada written exams at our facility, monitored by our Authorized Examination Invigilators.

The scheduling and length of training is based on availability and subject to change.

Admission Requirements

• A Private Pilot Licence.
• Students must have graduated High School or be 19 years of age at the start of the program.
• English proficiency test.
• Category 1 Canadian Medical Examination.

What You’ll Learn

• Two-hundred hours flight training.
• One hundred must be PIC (pilot in command) including twenty hours cross-country.
• Thirty-five hours dual (five hours night, five hours cross-country).
• Twenty hours instrument (ten hours can be simulator).
• Thirty hours solo (five hours night).
• Extra flight building time.
• Eighty hours of Ground School.
• At least sixty percent on written exam (CPAER).
• Successful completion of flight test.
