Sprott Shaw College’s Veterinary Assistant program prepares students to work effectively in veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, and other animal care environments. The program provides training in essential procedures such as safely restraining animals during examinations and immunizations, assisting veterinary professionals, and supporting daily clinic operations. Students learn to follow established animal welfare standards, ethical guidelines, and professional communication protocols while delivering high-quality customer service in veterinary settings.
In addition to classroom learning, the program emphasizes practical, real-world experience to help students build confidence and industry-ready skills. Through lab days, educational outings, field visits to regional shelters and veterinary clinics, and an integrated practicum placement, students gain valuable exposure to real animal care environments. Graduates are prepared for a variety of entry-level roles in veterinary clinics, animal rescue organizations, emergency and critical care clinics, pet supply businesses, boarding facilities, and other organizations focused on animal health and welfare.
