The Master of Social Work (MSW) program at the University of Windsor is a two-year, full-time Regular Track program designed for students with an honours degree in a related discipline. Completed over 20 months across five consecutive terms, the program is grounded in an ecological systems perspective, enabling students to understand the complex interactions between individuals, families, communities, and broader social structures. The first year focuses on foundational knowledge, with courses in social policy analysis, communication skills, research and practice evaluation, ethics, anti-oppressive practice, and social justice. Students also develop core competencies in working with individuals, groups, families, organizations, and communities.

In addition to coursework, the program emphasizes experiential learning through a 450-hour Foundation Year Practicum, followed by advanced studies in the second year. The advanced curriculum includes specialized courses in direct and indirect practice, social policy development, and program evaluation, along with an Advanced Practice Internship that further strengthens professional skills in real-world settings. Both the practicum and internship require significant time in community agencies, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practice. Through this combination of academic rigor and hands-on experience, graduates are prepared for advanced social work roles that support meaningful change across diverse practice environments.

I wanted to just say that the university did a great job with this program during the pandemic, performing over Zoom and making the most of a not ideal situation. Profs and staff were incredibly supportive and I was prepared for a changing theatre world through it all with new stories to tell about my experience.
