On The Mic Training

I completed the Foundations course online and discovered I really wanted to pursue a VO acting career so I attended the six month, full time Diploma Program in studio. It was a life changing experience and I learned so much; from my teachers, from my classmates and from myself.

The teachers were amazing and it was really inspiring to learn from people who are actively working in VO and really know the industry.

The classes are very well thought out to get the most out of your time there. Not only did I learn a lot about each type of VO job (Animation, Commercials, Video games, Narration, etc), but I also learned about the business side of it (how to get into the industry, how to set up your own recording studio at home, how to use ProTools, etc) and I also had a self discovery journey with classes that require you to be present and connected with others whether it be your scene partners or your audience (Improv, Acting and Voice & Movement classes were real eye-openers for me).

Spanish is my first language, and although I’m fluent in English, I was a bit worried about not being able to keep up as well as the rest of the class. It was definitely a challenge but I’m glad I took the leap. The teachers were very supportive and always encouraged me to express myself. So, don’t be afraid if English is not your first language.

I would totally recommend OTM to anyone who is looking into pursuing a career in Voice Over!

I attended online with a hybrid co-hort which allowed me to stay home with my family on the island while completing my diploma. Though there were a few occasional technical challenges (Bluetooth headphones were a must for Voice & Movement class) my overall experience was great! The teachers are all top notch. They shared the ins and outs of the industry and what we could expect as professional VO artists. They were encouraging and supportive. I am grateful to have studied with such dedicated and committed artists.

Thank you to all of the wonderful staff and instructors at On The Mic! I recently graduated from the full time diploma program and gained a wealth of valuable experience. I’ve been in the Film and TV industry for about a decade as an actor and coach, but my heart was always in voice work. I was able to learn from about 20 professional instructors who are working actors themselves with thousands of credits between them. We spent about 320 hours on our feet working on scripts, listening to others work, and learning how to launch our business in the professional VO world. We had access to studio space and worked with kind hearted engineers, who even taught us about Pro Tools and the basics of engineering. From building my home studio, learning about my craft and offering classes in almost every genre of VO, voice and movement work, business knowledge, recording my first demo (which turned out awesome!) an agency showcase, and post grad check-ins, this program offered a detailed and comprehensive approach to what it takes to be a voice actor. They did their best to foster a community that cared about their students well-being, were open to student feedback and supported them to grow to their full potential. They have my endless gratitude. I dreamed of going to OTM for a decade, and I am so excited to start the next chapter of my journey in VO. Thank you again to everyone at On The Mic.
