The ways we communicate are constantly changing, and Wilfred Laurier’s program is adapting to this. Through courses on media, culture, and theory, learn how communication is crucial to the ways in which we organize and structure our communities, our institutions, and our modes of governance, at both the local and global levels. Gain critical skills and knowledge that will prepare you for careers in public relations, politics, the non-profit sector, and industry.

Communication Studies examines the forms and practices of communication through six areas of emphasis. Choose up to two concentrations to focus on: media and communication history, media and cultural theory, visual communication, global communication, cultural and creative industries and digital media studies.

Make the most out of your university career by taking advantage of all that Laurier has to offer you. Volunteer work, campus clubs, leadership programs, studying abroad, work experience – there are so many ways you can extend your classroom experience into the real world. You can also apply for co-op at the end of your first year to gain hands-on work experiences for your resume.

Completing the Master of Education at Laurier was an incredibly rewarding experience. The courses challenged me to think more critically about teaching, leadership, and student learning while giving me practical strategies I could use immediately in my classroom. I especially appreciated learning about inclusive education, educational research, and evidence-based instructional practices. The professors encouraged meaningful discussions, and I graduated feeling more confident in my ability to support diverse learners and contribute to positive change in education.

The Master of Education program helped me grow both professionally and personally. I gained a deeper understanding of curriculum design, assessment methods, and educational leadership, and I learned how to use research to improve my teaching decisions. One of the most valuable aspects of the program was collaborating with educators from different backgrounds who shared their experiences and perspectives. I finished the program with new skills, fresh ideas, and the confidence to take on leadership opportunities within my school.
