Canadore College’s Veterinary Office Assistant program prepares students to become valuable members of veterinary offices and animal healthcare teams. The program focuses on developing the administrative, communication, and foundational animal care knowledge required to support daily operations in veterinary clinics and related organizations. Students learn the procedures and responsibilities commonly performed in veterinary office environments, including client relations, appointment coordination, and professional business communications, while gaining a basic understanding of animal health care.

Throughout the program, students build practical skills in veterinary terminology, animal husbandry, laboratory and surgical procedures, pharmacology, and anesthesia concepts. Courses also provide training in essential office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel, helping students effectively manage records and administrative tasks. By combining office management skills with veterinary-specific knowledge, graduates are prepared to contribute to the smooth operation of veterinary clinics, animal health associations, and other businesses within the veterinary industry.

The teachers are very knowledgable in the trade takes about real issues are they came across and how they solve them. they truly cared about their students and them succeeding in the program. The hands on shop projects, one of my favourite parts because you get to take what you learned and physically do it in class And the walk-through step-by-step to make sure you understand the procedures before moving onto a next topic.

During my time as a student I have been able to develop the way I learn and interact with others to a degree that has also helped me to mature into a better person. I have come to believe that this maturity will help me to develop into a better thinker as well, one that has the patience to listen and take consideration of what others have to say. I consider the act of learning a two way avenue that has to be taken seriously. It is one that involves the teacher, and the protégé. It has been, and will continue to be, my absolute goal as a student to become a diligent protégé and acquire all of learning my teachers have set in front of me. The way each of them have helped me to think about how my actions, and the way I choose to study my lessons and develop as a student, has made a tremendous impact on my life. This impact is one that I will carry into the future as I myself advance in my professional studies
