Algonquin College’s Human Services Foundations certificate provides a one-year exploratory pathway into the human services field, helping students identify academic and career directions that align with their interests and strengths. The program introduces learners to the role of human services in supporting individuals, families, and communities, while examining how professionals across disciplines collaborate to improve quality of life and address social challenges.
Students build essential skills common across human services professions, including relationship building, teamwork, stress management, and effective communication. The curriculum also strengthens awareness of diversity, inclusion, systemic barriers, and their impact on marginalized populations in Canada. Through this foundation, learners gain insight into client and community needs, develop academic and career planning skills, and explore potential pathways into programs such as Child and Youth Care, Social Services Worker, Community and Justice Services, Early Childhood Education, and Developmental Services Worker, with opportunities to receive transfer credits toward further studies.
