St. Clair College’s Honours Bachelor of Applied Arts in Social Justice & Legal Studies is a four-year interdisciplinary degree that integrates the foundational principles of social justice, poverty law, and community capacity building. The program draws on a wide range of academic disciplines, including criminology, sociology, social work, philosophy, political science, and Canadian law, to examine the experiences of under-represented and vulnerable populations. Delivered primarily through in-person learning with hybrid and online components, the curriculum combines theoretical study with applied approaches to understanding social systems and advancing equity-focused change.
Students develop strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills needed for leadership roles in advocacy, community development, and social reform. Through case studies, simulations, mock mediations, and a capstone project, learners engage directly with real-world social justice challenges while building practical strategies for addressing inequality and systemic barriers. A key component of the program is a mandatory 14-week Work Integrated Learning placement, which allows students to apply their knowledge in professional settings such as legal, governmental, non-profit, and community organizations. Graduates are prepared to support individuals and communities in navigating social-legal systems and are well-positioned for further academic study or careers focused on social justice and advocacy.
