The curriculum at Ross University School of Medicine (Ross Med) is structured to ensure that students develop a strong foundation in medical sciences while applying their knowledge in real-world settings.

The program begins with the Medical Sciences curriculum, where students build an academic foundation through classroom learning, patient simulations, and community health visits. As they progress, they transition into Clinical Education rotations, gaining hands-on experience in diverse medical settings. Ross Med integrates the six core competencies of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) throughout the four years of training, equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes for competent patient care.

Throughout their training, students are required to recognize the clinical presentation of common and life-threatening diseases, understand treatment principles, and manage patient care effectively. They acquire clinical knowledge across six major disciplines: family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. Additionally, they develop an understanding of biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, and socio-behavioral sciences, ensuring a well-rounded medical education. Students must also demonstrate proficiency in describing the normal structure and function of the body’s major organ systems, as well as the molecular, biochemical, and cellular mechanisms essential for maintaining homeostasis.

Admission Requirement

  • Official transcript(s) of a bachelor degree or higher from each college and/or professional school attended.
  • At least two official letters of recommendations.
  • GPA scores (there is no minimum score).
  • Canadian students are not required to submit MCAT scores but are strongly encouraged to do so. (However, any MCAT attempts must be reported.)

What You’ll Learn

  • Foundational Medical Science skills acquired during medical training equip students for success, developing a global perspective that enhances the approach to patient care, preparing to practice medicine in diverse healthcare settings worldwide.
  • Clinical curriculum is comprised of 90 weeks of clinical rotations that include 48 weeks of core clerkships and 42 weeks of electives.

I found the curriculum to be fast-paced but very structured. The basic sciences followed an organ-systems approach, which made it easier to connect concepts across subjects like anatomy, pathology, and pharmacology. The constant quizzes and block exams kept me accountable, and the built-in NBME practice exams were helpful for Step 1 prep. During clinical rotations, the curriculum shifted to hands-on learning with clear objectives for each core and elective. Overall, the curriculum was rigorous, but it prepared me well for both the boards and residency.

As a current Ross Med student, I’ve found the program challenging but genuinely rewarding. The pace is fast, and there’s a lot expected of you, but the professors and support staff really do help you stay on track. I’ve grown a lot academically here, and the clinical opportunities ahead in the U.S. are a big part of why I chose Ross. It’s not easy, but if you’re willing to put in the work, this program gives you a real shot at becoming a doctor.
