Georgian College’s Social Service Worker program prepares students to take on the role of helping professionals within the complex and diverse field of social services. The program encourages learners to critically reflect on their own values and beliefs while developing a strong commitment to social justice, human dignity, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Through a blend of classroom learning and counselling labs, students build practical skills in communication, assessment, interviewing, relationship building, group facilitation, and the application of therapeutic approaches in real-world contexts.

The curriculum integrates the study of ethical practice, professional standards, and evidence-based decision-making, alongside key areas such as mental health, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, community development, advocacy, and social innovation. With a strong emphasis on Indigenous knowledge and anti-oppressive practice, students are prepared to support individuals, families, groups, and communities in meaningful and culturally responsive ways. Experiential learning is central to the program, with opportunities for community engagement, social change initiatives, and two field placements that provide hands-on experience in relevant social service settings.

Do not waste your money coming to this institution. The teachers are rude, incopetent and racist towards some students. You'll do better as a self learner with online free courses, books and AI to generate problems and tests. In the end there's less stress and the material absorption is much better too! This school is a write off and a waste of tax payer's money. It should be closed permanently!
