In the Professional Firefighter program, students will gain the essential firefighting skills needed to ensure safety for themselves, their colleagues, and the public during critical situations. Training takes place at an off-campus site, where students can practice their skills in a controlled environment. The curriculum covers fire behavior, motor vehicle extraction, medical first response, and effective communication in high-pressure scenarios.
Field training provides hands-on experience with various firefighting equipment, such as trucks, pumps, respirators, and hydraulic rescue tools like the jaws of life, preparing students to handle fires, automotive accidents, and public safety incidents.
The program also includes eight weeks of on-the-job training in a career or composite (career and volunteer) fire department, allowing students to apply their skills in real-world situations.
